What a cracker of an opening night the Derby Postcards 2012 show was!
If you managed to make it along, on behalf of the artists, Derby Arts Collective and Norval Gallery – THANK YOU! Thank you for supporting our local artists in their celebration of Derby. Over 25 talented local artists exhibited more than 85 ‘postcard’ style artworks reflecting the Derby experience.
Finely honed sculpture from Fitzroy Crossing rock, Twisted cutlery fish, etching, embellished textiles, glass beads, resin, photography and paint were all skillfully manipulated in an homage to our tidal town.
If you haven’t wandered down to Norv’s gallery yet, make haste – lest you miss an experience worth remembering! Or the perfect Christmas present from an extraordinary place…
The patience and skill of John Mitchell’s talent means he will spend several days ‘finding’ these miracles embedded in stone unearthed from Fitzroy Crossing building sites whilst still maintaining the beautiful simplicity of the rock itself.

The ever-industrious Mark Noval splashes vivid colour in striking hues that evoke the heart of the Kimberley Spirit – even in these tiny (and incredibly affordable!!!) masterpieces.
A fan of our native flora in microscopic detail, the effervescent Gabby Gugeri focuses intimate detail in her stunning oil paintings of Boab flowers – ubiquitous in Derby at this time of year.
Artist’s muse Sarah Norval captures the unique Kimberley character and personality of her dad’s mini arboretum and our local boab trees in her gorgeously quirky etchings with equally evocative names.
The ever-inspiring ‘old master’ of Derby – Ros Mitchell – effortlessly captures a moment in time complete with the essence of the person (models from our weekly life drawing group at Norval gallery on Tuesday nights) in a few skillfully placed confident strokes of oil paint.
Isobelle Sirianni is an exciting new addition to the DARC Inc gang. Hailing from the colder pastures of Victoria she has managed to acclimatise to our sweltering monsoonal heat sufficiently enough to compose this breath-taking trio which capture the magic of the Derby Jetty.
